Mizzima maintains a head office in Delhi, India and a news bureau in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mizzima has over 60 employees reporting from five countries: Bangladesh, Burma, China, India and Thailand.
Its stated purpose is to raise awareness about Burma. It aims to promote "democracy and freedom of expression in Burma, by improving the flow of information in and out of the country and through advocacy and lobbying".[2]
According to the BBC News website, The New Delhi-based Burmese news agency, Mizzima News, has been giving mainly factual accounts of the protests in several cities around the country.[3] The Voice of America site states[4]:
“ | Mizzima News Agency has produced independent news and commentary on Burma since 1998. It covers Burma's military government, human rights situation and India's policy toward Burma. The news agency openly supports the campaign to bring democracy to Burma. | ” |
